Meditation is the tool you use to “upgrade your operating system,” to move from that “either/or” thinking of the binary mind into the more spacious heart awareness that sustains the wisdom way of knowing. – Cynthia Bourgeault
To meditate is to discover new possibilities, to awaken to the capacity that each of us has to live more wisely, more lovingly, more compassionately, and more fully. – Jack Kornfield
By our very breathing we are speaking the name of God and participating in God’s breath. – Richard Rohr
What is meditation?
Meditation is the universal spiritual practice of aligning to our true selves. Found in many of the world’s wisdom traditions (world religions), meditation is putting the mind in the heart.
Meditation is simple, and key to a mature spiritual health. While sitting meditation is most common, it can be practiced in all aspects of the day.
How do I begin?
Depending on the tradition, there are many ways to begin and sustain a meditation practice. Drawing from my own interspiritual tradition with firm roots in Christianity, meditation begins with the breath.
The same word used in the Christian scriptures for breath is used for spirit and wind. Meditation is the art of cultivating a loving intention of presence grounded in the breath, opening ourselves to the movement of the divine within and around us.
So, where to begin? Begin in this moment! Hear the invitation to get up and walk, play an instrument, or reach out to a friend, and open yourself to the fullness of who you are.
